New Family Member: A Garage without Compromise

Four months ago, I continued my post-PhD annual tradition of buying a new car every February. Establishing and maintaining traditions has value, studies have shown.

Anyway:

The hard top is in the garage.

It’s a 2015 Jeep Wrangler in Willys Wheeler trim (basically a less-extensive, less-expensive version of the serious-offroad Rubicon package).  Came to me used, with 1,500 miles on it. The color is called “anvil”, because Jeep. I bought it online, which was an oddly easy, even pleasant experience (from Vroom.com, located near Dallas; everyone who worked there seemed to enjoy working there). The seller offered FREE delivery* and provided a Web app that allowed me to track the progress of the guy driving the truck as he transported the vehicle (he really seemed to get bogged down in southern Oklahoma). All the employees there with whom I interacted were oddly chill and normal. Weird and probably worth whatever premium I might have paid to buy from them.

The Wrangler is fun to drive because its driving dynamics are so awful. It is in many ways the antithesis of the M Coupe (particularly in curves). I also feel like it gives me two of the least compromising/least compromised vehicles ever built.

Got the mud tires replaced with some more-easygoing all-terrains. The mileage and driving-on-stilts situations were a little hard to take.

No, I still haven’t sold the truck yet. I may still need to haul dirt somewhere.

So, yeah, this occurred.
